JDU opposes JPC decision

Nitish Kumar led the Janata Dal United (JDU) on Friday opposed the decision taken by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The party in a statement condemned the decision of the JPC for the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 to go ahead with the submission of its report to the parliament on 7th January.

"The report is arbitrarily summed up rejecting all amendments moved by the different members and is therefore bereft of all rationality and does not intend to serve the interest of the indigenous people of Assam as well as the Northeast," read the statement.

The statement further read, "The JDU will not support the Bill both inside and outside the parliament and will leave no stones unturned to ensure that the proposed Bill is withdrawn in the larger benefit of the affected people."

It also said that the JDU will join hands with like minded political parties to build up pressure and also take up democratic course of action as it deem fit to prevail upon those favouring the Bill to see reasons that are detrimental and will also support those civil societies like the NESO and AASU who are championing the course for the opposition of the said bill.

It should be noted that earlier in July, 2018 the JDU took a decision in its National Executive Meeting in Delhi to oppose the Bill.
