Japanese Encephalitis cases increase in flood aftermath

Cases ofdeaths due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) is increasing with each passing day inthe state of Assam.

Although asper non-government data JE has claimed more than 100 lives, however, accordingto government figures only 21 persons have surrendered their lives to theinfection.

Almost 70people, who have been JE infected, are under treatment in various hospitals ofthe state.

UnionHealth Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has expressed concern over the issue and aCentral Team has been sent to take stock of the situation.

As perlatest development, a class X student of Tihu's Makhibaha Girls' High School,Ritamoni Baniya, infected by JE, is in a critical condition. In another case,Bina Bora from Dhing is also in a critical condition.

Accordingto reports, JMCH has reported six deaths due to Japanese Encephalitis in this yearalone. 17 persons are under treatment at the hospital. On the other hand, tillnow, JE has claimed five lives in Karimganj.
