Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday announced that the second National Cricket Academy (NCA) of the country would be opened in Dibrugarh, which would provide support to players in the northeastern states.
The announcement was made by Sonowal while addressing the crowd at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a multi-purpose sports complex in Dibrugarh.
"The BCCI had decided to set up a National Cricket Academy at Dibrugarh for the north eastern region. We are already scouting for a plot of 20 bighas in Dibrugarh which will be needed to set up the National Cricket Academy" Sonowal said.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the local clubs, praising them for holding tournaments and games regularly and encouraging the youth despite limited resources. He added that such initiatives are essential for promoting talented sports persons of the region. He also felicitated 13 sports persons on the occasion.
It may be mentioned here that the only National Cricket Academy in India was established in 2000 in Bangalore, Karnataka at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
