India Vanquish Windies in 1st ODI

India vanquished West Indies in the 1st ODI at Barsapara Cricket Stadium winning the high scoring match by 8 wickets with 47 balls left. Starting the second innings, India had a mammoth 323 runs to chase. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma got off to a moderate start and India lost their first wicket at 10 after 2 overs. Dhawan was the first to be dismissed after an inside-edger on to the stumps by Oshane Thoman  who bagged his first international wicket.

Dhawan was followed by Captain Virat Kohli. Kohli and Rohit set a partnership of over 200 runs for the second wicket and took the match away from the Windies. Kohli scored his 36th ODI century. The  thundering 140 runs innings of just 104 deliveries included twenty one 4's and two massive 6's with a strike rate of 130.84. Kohli was stumped  by Hope in an out swinger bowled by Devendra Bishoo. Kohli was followed by in form batsmen Ambati Rayudu who scored 22 of 22 balls.

Opener Rohit scored 152 runs of 117 deliveries  with fifteen 4's and eight 6's with a strike rate of 129.91. Rohit Sharma also became the 4th Indian batsman to smash 20 ODI hundreds. Rohit brought up his hundred off 84 balls with a boundary of the bowling of Ashley Nurse in the 32 over.

Rohit Sharma also received the man of the match.

India won the toss and elected to field first in the 1st ODI against West Indies. The visitors got off to a rapid start courtesy Kieran Powell. Powell raced past 50, but then India hit back with two quick strikes in the second powerplay.

Shimron Hetmyer scored a brilliant 106 runs of 78 balls. Captain Jason Holder scored 38 of 42 deliveries. Kieran Powell and Marlon Samuels contributed 65 for the second wicket. Shai Hope and Rovman Powell made a partnership of  74 runs for the 5th wicket.

Yuzuvendra Chahal  took 3 wickets for 41 runs with an economy of 4.1 runs. Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadega took 2 wickets each.

India will face off West Indies in the 2nd ODI at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on 24th October.
