The government of Meghalaya is deliberating over the idea of increasing the insurance cover under the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) from the present Rs 2.8 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
The announcement was made by the State Health Minister AL Hek, after he inaugurated the Laitkor Health Sub centre in Shillong.
Hek said that the Conrad Sangma government is committed to providing excellent-quality healthcare to the public, especially the financially weaker sections and added that the insurance scheme was a grand success.
The Health Minister also said that the State government is contemplating to open a -of-the-art diagnostic centre in Shillong and added that two places have already been identified for the same.
The minister urged the people to step forward and sign up for the insurance to avail financial aid in times of hospitalization and treatment.
