Veteran Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid floral tribute to the mortal remains of the former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at Sankardeva Kalakshetra on Wednesday. He paid a visit to the bereaved family at their government residence and visited Kalakshetra during his two-hour visit to the city.

Paying tribute to Gogoi, Gandhi said, "It was an irreparable loss to Assam and India. He was my teacher, my guru. Gogoi used to explain me what I can't do. He always treated me in a similar way as his son Gaurav Gogoi. This was a personal loss for me."

Gandhi also expressed grief over the sad demise of Ahmed Patel adding that both leaders death is a great loss to the nation. "We always used to sit together with Gogoi and he never used to talk about himself. He always talked about Assam, development of Assam. His views were different for Assam. Gogoi always used to keep the culture, religion, language altogether. What he did for Assam can't be done by anyone else," Gandhi added.

He further stated that Assam Congress will always stand with his principle.

Gandhi will now visit the bereaved family of Tarun Gogoi at their government residence and will return to Delhi.
