Guwahati bids adieu to Goddess Durga

WithVijayadashami being celebrated across Assam on Tuesday, the Durgotsav has cometo an end.

InGuwahati, the idol immersion, also known as Visarjan, of Goddess Durgais taking place at Kachomari ghat in Fancy Bazaar and Pandu ghat and threeother ghats – Saukuchi ghat, Chunsali ghat in Noonmati and Basistha ghat.

Before the idols are taken out for Visarjan, women were seen putting vermilion on Goddess Durga's forehead and feet after which they applied it on other women present around them.

It maybe mentioned here that Vijayadashami is celebrated differently in various partsof the Indian subcontinent. In the southern, eastern and northeasternstates of India, Vijayadashami marks the end of Durga Puja, remembering goddessDurga's victory over Mahishasura to help restore dharma. In thenorthern and western states, the festival is synonymously called Dussehra.
