Governor Jagdish Mukhi on Tuesday has asked the state Additional Director General of Police (Border) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta to make all the watch posts of Assam Police Border Organisation (APBO) functional by July 31.
Mukhi took to twitter and said, "Concerned to come across a news item that reads 39 of 159 Watch Posts of Assam Police Border Organization (APBO) are non-functional, I called ADGP (Border) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta to my office at Raj Bhavan today to discuss the status of the watch posts."
"Have asked him to look into the issue on urgent basis and put in all efforts to make the defunct watch posts functional by 31st July, 2018 and produce an action taken report." he added.
The Governor had directed Mahanta to engage his men and machinery to make all the watch posts functional and submit an action taken report.
A total of 159 watch posts are located in infiltration prone areas of 20 districts of Assam to conduct survey in these areas, said the Assam Police website.
The APBO personnel are posted in all the districts of Assam for detection and deportation of illegal foreigners and to prevent them from entering into the state from across the Indo-Bangladesh Border, the website added.
