The Central Government on Friday decided to withdraw four heritage sites of Assam from its 'Adopt A Heritage' scheme, through which the government plans to entrust heritage sites/monuments and other tourist sites to private sector companies, public sector companies and individuals for the development of tourist amenities.
Assam Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma on Friday met Union Minister K.J Alphons and took up the issue. The decision came after the meeting concluded.
The four heritage sites from Assam that were previously included in the scheme are heritage site Kaziranga National Park and historical monuments Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar and Shiv Dol in Sibsagar.
Recently, the Central government and Assam government faced a lot of criticism from various organisations and NGOs of the State after the news of handing over the heritage sites to private sector companies attracted lots of ire from general public and organisations.
