Gauhati HC Extends COVID Restrictions Till June 21

In view of the COVID-19 situation, the Gauhati High Court has extended its restriction on functioning till June 21.

However the restrictions allow the court to take up urgent cases through video conferencing.

"The court will function through virtual mode, and the judges will function from their respective residence. The Registry will assign the link(s) to all the lawyers one day in advance," an order said.

The court said the urgent cases include involvingquestions of life and liberty of the citizen, bail applications, habeas corpus petitions, death reference cases, cases relating to the demolition of buildings, eviction, termination of service etc.

"In case there is any other urgent matter and the same needs to be taken up on an urgent basis, the counsel has to make a mention before the court concerned, and then it is the discretion of the court to take up the matter or to list the case for a future date. All filing during this period will be entertained only in soft copies, to be sent to the registry via email," it said.

Earlier, the restrictions were extended till June 15. This has now been further extended till June 12 according to a fresh notification issued on Monday.

On Sunday, the state of Assam logged 2,100 new cases of COVID-19 and 36 deaths. The active tally stood at 40,026.
