Today's diesel rates in Guwahati are very sensitive to global crude prices.

We have been seeing an uptick in global crude prices, whichhas also pushed diesel rates in Guwahati higher. Also, prices of the petroleumproduct have now been aligned to market rates.

This means diesel prices in Guwahati will rise each time, global crude prices rise and the rupee falls against the dollar. The diesel price is inclusive of Assam state taxes.

State-run oil marketing companies on Saturday increased petrol and diesel prices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Gurugram and Noida by 24-31 paise and 24-26 paise, respectively. Following the today's revision, petrol prices rose to Rs 73.35 a liter as against Rs 73.06 on Friday while diesel prices went up by 24 paise to Rs 66.53 per liter as compared to Rs 66.29 on Thursday, according to the fuel price data available on the website of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL).

On Friday, fuel retailers hiked petrol prices by 34-37 paise a liter and diesel prices by 28-30 paise per liter across the country. The pump prices of petrol and diesel are the cheapest Delhi among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes.

In the economic capital Mumbai, the citizens will have to pay Rs 79.02 for a liter of petrol after a 29 paise raise over Friday's rate. A liter of diesel costs Rs 69.79 per liter, 25 paise higher than yesterday's rate of Rs 69.54 a liter.

On Tuesday, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said that oil supplies from Saudi Arabia have not been disrupted. Fuel retailers, as well as the Centre, were in touch with Saudi oil company Aramco and authorities in the Kingdom.

India imports 83 percent of its crude oil needs, and Saudi Arabia is its second-biggest supplier after Iraq. The minister further stated that reports suggest that the drone strike on Aramco has led to a loss of 5 million barrels per day of supplies from Saudi Arabia.
