Foreigners’ Tribunal serves notices to Barak MLA, family members

The Foreigners' Tribunal (FT) has served notices to Borkhola BJP MLA Kishore Nath and few of his family members in suspicion of them being "doubtful citizens".

On Friday, the FT No 1 has sent notices to the MLA Kishore Nath, from Barak Valley, his wife Nilima Nath, his four brothers Matilal Nath, Pradip Nath, Jagdish Nath, Manik Nath and sister-in-law Rakhi Nath.

As per the notices, Kishore Nath along with his family members, all residents of Ward 28, have been asked to appear before an FT judge to prove their Indian citizenship.

Nath said that he will approach court with all the required documents to prove his citizenship. The MLA legislator has blamed the previous Congress government's involvement for serving such notices.

Assam has been making headlines over the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 of late. The people of the state fear that the proposed Bill would breach the clauses of the Assam Accord which states that all the illegal foreigners who came to the state after 1971 from Bangladesh, irrespective of their religion, have to be deported.
