Likewise other flood affected areas of Assam, Guwahati is now looming under the threat of being flooded by the rapidly rising waters of the Brahmaputra.
According to reports the water level is rising at a rate of 1-2 cm per hour.
The Uzanbazar fish market has already been submerged by the flooding water of the mighty river.
The rising waters has also engulfed the Chakreswar Temple in Kalipur.
Simultaneously, 90% of the Guwahati-Umananda Ghat is under water now due to overnight increase in water level.
In Maligaon, the rising Brahmaputra waters is now finding its way into Pandu, flooding several houses located near the river.
A local resident said, "Yesterday the flood condition was not this severe, however, it has increased at an alarming rate today. If this rise continues, then it will not take much time for the flood waters to enter the city."
"The flood is affecting adversely with each passing year because Brahmaputra can take no more as its river bed is rising. It is high time government take appropriate measures on this matter", added the local.
NDMA in its latest report said, "The water level of Brahmaputra River at Guwahati DC Court was measured at 50.81 meters at 09:00 on 2019-07-15. This exceeds the danger level of 49.68 meters, but is below the previous highest flood level of 51.46 meters recorded in 2004. It is expected to rise to 51.1 meters by 12:00 on 2019-07-16."
