Heavy incessant rains in Assam and also in the neighbouring state of Arunachal Pradesh and country Bhutan has submerged several villages in the state. Around 15,000 people have been affected by the rising waters.
Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Golaghat, Jorhat, Chirang districts are among those which have been worst affected by the floods.
Hundreds of hectares of agricultural land is under flood waters with many roads and embankments breached in these districts.
The water flowing from Bhutan has wrecked havoc in Chirang district with the water of the Aai River rising with each passing day. Residents of the Dababil village are witnessing chest deep waters.
Meanwhile, NEEPCO has started releasing water into the Ranganadi River since last evening raising alarm in the villages situated on the banks of the river.
Several rivers, such as Brahmaputra, Subansiri, Kakol, Pabha, Dikrong among others are now flowing over the danger mark.
