As Diwali celebrations begin with Dhanteras on Friday, marketsare ready to welcome shoppers for the festive time.
On Dhanteras, Goddess Lakshmi and Kubera, the God of wealth andprosperity are worshipped and people tend to buy a metal even a small piece onthis day having faith that Goddess Lakhsmi will appear in home.
The festival is considered auspicious to buy metals and thistime people, instead of buying Chinese products have opted to buy Indian-madeproducts, as reported by news agency ANI.
It has been seen that markets across the country are decoratedto welcome the festive buyers.
A Guwahati-based retailer said that they have a whole range ofcolourful candles- scented, wax- gel-based, and decorative lights.
A city-based trader, Abhimanyu Saini who sells crackers said while quoted by news agency ANI that this year, there are a number of new varieties in the market and they also have a special cracker named 'Go Green' which is less polluting.
He also said that there are new kinds of spinners that hover like helicopters. People, this time is buying more India-made lights.
On the other hand, the purchase of gold and jewelry have been decreased as the gold rate touched a new high, crossing Rs. 40,000 per 10 gm. Shopkeepers said that they have seen a reduction of 30 percent in the sale of gold and jewelry this year due to the soaring price.
