Renowned litterateur Dr Nagen Saikia would be conferred the Publication Board, Assam's prestigious lifetime achievement award for his contributions in the field of Assamese literature. The announcement was made by Assam Publication Board's vice-chairman Sumanta Saliha at its office in Bamunimaidam on Thursday.
The lifetime achievement award of the Publication Board includes a cash award of Rs 2 lakh, a citation, a plaque and a collection of books, said vice chairman of the Board, Chaliha. The award would be conferred on him at the inaugural ceremony of the 32nd Guwahati Book Fair to be held at the AEI Field Chandmari on December 22.
Chief Minister Sarbnanda Sonowal has consented to inaugurate the 12-day event from December 22 to January 2.
Eminent writer from West Bengal Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Syed Muazzem Ali will be a special guest of the inaugural event to be presided over by State Education Minister and Publication Boards Chairman Siddhartha Bhattacharya .
The award, started in the year 2012, has been given to Lakshmi Nandan Bora, Dr Dinesh Goswami and many other renowned litterateurs so far.
