Doordarshan To Telecast ‘Lal-Rekha’, A Series On Assam’s Freedom Struggle

Under the banner of Kamalashri Films Pvt Ltd, national broadcaster Doordarshan will be telecasting a serial named 'Lal-Rekha' based on the backdrop of the freedom struggle and valor of anonymous Assam revolutionaries who significantly contributed to the country's independence in 1947.

Set to release on October 31, the series is produced and directed by Dilip Sonkar and will be telecasted at 7pm on weekends.

The story revolves around two characters 'Lal' and 'Rekha' whose love story was born in the valleys of Assam in 1936. Describing their characters as true nationalists, Sonkar said the story's main focus is about the freedom struggle in Assam.

The character of 'Lal' is played by 27-year old Jivitesh Majumdar, who is a native of Assam and have been in the industry since 5 years. He has previously worked in an animated short film 'Latkan' and also assisted Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury – director of Bollywood movie "Pink".

Meanwhile, the character of 'Rekha' is played by Bengali actress Sudipta Bandyopadhyay. Sonkar said the series also includes a stellar supporting cast.

The promo and poster reveal of the series, which was held in Mumbai on Thursday, was attended by eminent artists and producers of the TV world including Mahesh Pandey, Piyush Gupta, Daulat Singh Rawat etc.

Sonkar said the family serial is based on the Amar-Prem Katha and incorporates the contribution made by the northeastern states in the Indian freedom struggle movement. He added that the series has been made exciting, interesting and educative so that the present ignorant generation can see it and evaluate the freedom gained after a hard struggle.

"It is the main goal of the series," he asserted.

Furthermore it is to mention that the story was written by Devikanandan Khatri and Keparpote Vivek Khatri, dialogues by Dhiraj Kumar and Ranjit Bhattacharya, and music by Aslam Surti (brother of veteran music composer Ismail Darbar).
