Following a decision by the Assam government, the Gauhati High Court has ordered the sensational Dokmoka lynching case to be transferred to Nagaon District Court from Diphu Session Court.
The decision was taken to protect the main witnesses in the case. A 844 page chargesheet was filed on the case on September 1 this year after almost 75 days of the incident.
The Gauhati HC ordered the case to be tried in Nagaon court through a suo motu cognizance in one of its PIL. The HC has specifically asked the session judge to take up the case.
In its order, the HC also asked the case not be taken over by the Additional Session judge. The session court has also been asked to try the case in fast track court to expedite the process.
On the horrific night of June 8, two youth from Guwahati – Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das, were brutally lynched by a 200 strong mob in Karbi Anglong's Dokmoka after mistaking them for child lifters.
