As Assam was reeling from a ghastly attack on a doctor in Hojai, another such incident has come to light.
In Darrang, a doctor was allegedly attacked by a patient's son after the former was made to wait for a long time.
The doctor in question is Dr Ahmed Ali, a physician working at the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH). As per a report, Ali has alleged that he was assaulted by the patient's son at a clinic in Darrang's Namtoli.
The doctor has identified the attacker as a local Youth Congress worker Rahul Amin.
Later, a case was registered with Kharupetia police station based on the complaint lodged by Ali.
Such incidents of attack on doctors have been making headlines in recent days.
Earlier this month, an on-duty doctor was brutally assaulted by a group of men in Hojai district after a Covid-19 patient passed away, sending shockwaves across the state as well as the nation.
Relatives of the deceased have allegedly thrashed the doctor, Seuj Kumar Senapati, who works with Fultali Model Hospital under Lanka Police Station. Atleast 20 people could be seen beating and manhandling Senapati.
It has also been alleged that few nurses were assaulted too.
In Hailakandi, another similar incident was reported. An on-duty government doctor was assaulted by family members of a COVID-19 patient who died during treatment.
The doctor, Dr Gaurav Bhattacharjee, was assaulted after the COVID patient died within minutes of being admitted. The patient's relatives and friends blamed the hospital for the death.
