Dipa Karmakar, the Olympian gymnast from Tripura, has once again brought laurels to the region and the nation as she went on to win a gold medal in the vault event of FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin, Turkey today.
The 24-year-old sensation from Tripura, who had finished fourth in the vault event at the 2016 Rio Olympics, scored 14.150 to win gold on Sunday.
Dipa Karmakar returned to action after a long lay-off of nearly two years due to injury and was equally impressive in qualification for her final vault as she topped the qualification with a score of 13.400.
Karmakar had suffered an Anetrior Cruciate Ligament injury after the Rio Olympics and had undergone surgery. She was initially confident of making a comeback at the Commonwealth Games but rehabilitation took more time than expected and she missed the Gold Coast event.
Her next assignment is the Asian Games in Jakarta from August 2018 for which she has been included in the 10 member team from India and will be expecting another top quality finish at the games.
