Differently abled persons demand filling backlog vacancy in government department

Pratibandhi Suraksha Santha (PSS), an association of differently abled persons of Assam had carried out a strike in front of Assam secretariat on Friday in protest against government's failure to fill up vacancy of 4419 posts reserved for differently-abled persons in different departments of the government.

PSS alleged that Assam government has been intentionally delaying the recruitment of differently-baled persons.

"Government has no intention to fulfill our demand, our rights. If this attitude of government continues then we will have to take drastic measures to fulfill our cause", said an office bearer of PSS.

PSS members in a bid to enter the state secretariat premises , tried to break a police corridor. Police and CRPF deployed retaliated the move and later detained all the protesters. the protest had caused huge traffic jam on busy GS road in the city.

In December last, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had already directed the Social Welfare Department to finalise the selection criterion for filling up of nearly 4,500 posts reserved for differently-abled persons.

Sonowal insisted on clearing all vacancies backlog of differently-abled persons in various government departments within December 20 last year. While chairing a meeting with representatives of associations of differently-abled persons, Sonowal said that all backlog vacancies be filled up through a special recruitment drive.

At present, there are around 4,419 vacant posts under PH category in different government departments.
