Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Guwahati (West) Bhanwar Lal Meena has been suspended due to lapse of adequate security arrangements during Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi's visit to Kamakhya Temple.
The CJI allegedly had to wait for a long period on the road on the day of his visit.
It may be noted that, according to orders, the DCP will have to be present at the Assam police headquarters and will require permission from competent authority to leave the headquarters.
CJI Gogoi visited Kamakhya Temple on October 17, which also happened to be the Ashtami of Durga Puja. There were other visitors such as BJP Chief Amit Shah and reportedly, the CJI, was "angry" at the "crowd management".
Shah came to offer prayer in the temple accompanied by CM Sonowal, state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Apparently, due to Amit Shah's visit, hundreds of BJP supporters thronged the temple, thereby creating chaos in the temple vicinity which also hindered security concerns of the CJI.
