Cyclone “Peethai” touches Assam, rain, cold wave

The cyclone "Peethai" touches Assam since last night triggering light drizzle and pushing the mercury down in the process.

Since yesterday, there is cloud and last night and this morning there are little drizzle and this has sent the tempraure down to 18 degre this morning but by night it should come down to 13 degree.

Meanwhile One person was killed after cyclone Phethai made a landfall at Katrenikona in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh on Monday. Heavy rains lashed Katrenikona region and heavy winds uprooted trees. Trains were rescheduled and flights were diverted in the state. Nearly 20,000 were evacuated and put up at relief camps.

The RTGC in Amravati said that the severe cyclone Phethai had weakened before its landfall neat Katrenikona around 12.25 pm with a wind speed of 80 Kmph, as per PTI. In view of the storm, authorities have put the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Coast Guard on high alert. 16 teams of Andhra Pradesh Disaster Response and Fire Services have also been kept at standby at Rajamahendravaram. Nine teams, comprising five members each, are stationed in West Godavari district for road clearance, as per PTI.

Cyclone Phethai is the third cyclonic storm to hit southern India in the last two months after cyclones Titli and Gaja.
