COVID-19 Situation In Guwahati Will be More Worse: Himanta

Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that the COVID-19 situation will worsen in Guwahati. He said that the situation will turn like Delhi and Mumbai as per the information of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Briefing the media at Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), the minister said that he even had a conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone regarding the matter and that the Home Minister also answered regarding the scarcity of medicines by the Drug Dealer Association.

The minister further informed that there are adequate numbers of medicine available in the government hospitals and that they have not given a thought on the drug dealer association's demand.

The minister inaugurated a Biology laboratory at MMCH. He said that the government is planning to set up 9 biology laboratory in association with GMCH.

"The work of the second laboratory has also been started at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH). We also want to set up another laboratory with the army personnel and also want to start another lab at B Barooah Cancer Institute," the minister added.

The minister further informed that two Professors of GMCH have tested positive for COVID-19 under whose supervision, the work of lab testing was started.

The professors have been identified as Dr. Ajanta Sarma and Dr. Barnali Sarma. Both of them tested more than 50,000 lab tests since February 8 and were tested positive after conducting 50,000 lab tests.

Moreover, another 7 laboratory technicians have also tested positive for COVID-19.
