The wait for the bereaved families has finally come to end as after almost fifteen years, a Dhemaji court will pronounce the verdict in the 2004 Dhemaji blast case today. The blast took place on the occasion of Independence Day in 2004, where at least 13 people were killed and most of the victims were schoolchildren aged between 12 and 14. The bomb which was planted near the college-gate was triggered by a remote-controlled device.

As per reports, a total of 15 accused were convicted in the case. The accused are: Dipanjali Gohain, Muhi Handique, Prasanta Bhuyan, Jatin Duwori alias Rongmon, Homen Gogoi, Leela Khan, Mohan Chutia, Jaya Chutia, Chandra Nath Gogoi, Gobin Kalita, Joy Chandra Chutia, Apsara Baruah, Jiten Chutia, Meen Baruah and Rashid Bharali.

After the blast, ULFA said that this was a big mistake. The blast also proved to be a turning point for the ULFA's fortunes in the State, and it rapidly lost its base in areas that were once its bastion.

It may be mentioned here that bereaved families are still trying to come out of the trauma of the dark day.
