Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday laid the foundation stone of Rang Homes, an initiative under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) at Azara, Guwahati.
The foundation programme was also attended by Eductaion Minister Siddhartha Bahttacharya and MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said "with PM Shri Narendra Modi's vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, Rang Homes aim to provide an abode for people from financially weaker sections and help them build their future".
The Rang Homes under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is an initiative by Government of India to provide affordable housing to the urban poor with a target of building 20 million affordable houses by 31 March 2022.
The initiative has two components: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) for the urban poor and Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin) for the rural poor. The initiative is converged with other schemes to ensure houses have a toilet, Saubhagya Yojana electricity connection, Ujjwala Yojana LPG gas connection, access to drinking water and Jan Dhan banking facilities, etc.
