Christmas celebrations on December 25 in Assam's Silchar were reportedly disrupted by goons who claimed to be members of the Bajrang Dal, a right-wing group having ties to the ruling BJP.
The goons reportedly forced their way into a church and demanded it is shut down. They claimed that Hindus could not take part in Christmas festivities.
They said that they did not object to Christians celebrating but would not let Hindus do so as December 25 was also 'Tulsi Diwas'.
Local Police labeled it a "small commotion" and said that no complaints had been filed and thus no cases were registered, reported NDTV, quoting a senior Assam Police official.
One of the goons wearing a saffron cap was seen in a widely circulated video saying that it was also Tulsi Diwas on Saturday and Hindu boys and girls not celebrating it and in turn turning out at Christmas festivities, hurt their sentiments.
Visuals of the ruckus created at the scene are being widely circulated online. Hate mongering in the name of religion is very prevalent nowadays.
