CAB won’t oppose Assam Accord: Rajnath

The Citizenship Amendment Bill which was passed in the Lok Sabha on January 08 has now been tabled at the Rajya Sabha. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh introduced the Bill in the House.

Speaking on the chaotic situation, which Assam is reeling under, Rajnath Singh in an Official Statement said that the situation is presently under control.

Further elaborating on the Citizenship Bill, Singh said, "This Amendment Bill is not only for Assam, it applies for various states in India".

Ensuring that the implementation of the Assam Accord will be taken care of, the Union Minister said, "We have taken up measures to implement Assam Accord" adding, "I will sit in a meeting with the Chief Ministers of the Northeast".

Singh also claimed that the Citizenship Amendment Bill will not oppose the Assam Accord in any form.

In context of granting ST status to six ethnic communities, the Home Minister said "It will keep the rights of various ethnic communities secured".

Rajnath Singh also informed that the Kokrajhar Doordarshan Centre will be modernised with state of the art facilities.
