A delegation of 11 regional political parties from Northeast on Sunday called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi. The leaders of the political parties demanded scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
"We met Rajnath Singh and discussed about the current situation in Assam as well as in Northeast, which has been triggered by the Centre's decision on passing the Citizenship Amendment Bill," said AGP president Atul Bora while speaking to Pratidin Time.
Bora further added that the Home Minister assured the delegation that the Bill is not in the agenda list of Rajya Sabha. Bora hoped that the government will not pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha in this session of the parliament.
On the other hand, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma said, "Rajnath Singh has given due importance to our concerns which we raised in the meeting," adding, "Singh said that the government is aware of the protests in the Northeast over the Bill."
