The students of CottonUniversity on Sunday gheraoed the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) office at Ambari inGuwahati. The students condemned the AGP leaders' stand on the CitizenshipAmendment Bill (CAB).
"People of Assam or thestudents of the State community would not accept the Bill in any form," said astudent of Cotton University, adding, "And leaders of AGP have to understandand respect the sentiment of people of Assam."
It may be mentioned herethat AGP leaders, after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday,indirectly supported the CAB. President of AGP, Atul Bora even went on to thankHome Minister Shah for "discussing" the CAB with the organisations andpolitical parties of North East.
Earlier, the students ofCotton University met opposition Congress' leaders including APCC presidentRipun Bora, leader of opposition Debabrata Saikia, MP Abdul Khaleque and othersin Guwahati and requested them to oppose the bill.
On the other hand, thousandsof city students led by Cotton University Students' Union (CUSU) hit thestreets on Saturday evening demanding immediate scrapping of the CAB.
