Amid Bhogali Bihu celebrations in the state, the protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 is still on. People across the state of Assam were seen opposing the bill on the day of Bihu and burning it on the Meji Fire after the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi and 70 other ingenious organisations appealed the people of Assam to burn the bill during Bihu celebrations.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill was also burned at senior Advocate Arup Borboras house on Uruka by literary critic Dr Hiren Gohain,  international award-winning Indian film director Jahnu Barua, political commentator Haidar Hussain, Amar Asom Editor Prasanta Rajguru,  senior journalist  Manjit Mahanta, advocate Hafeez Rashid Chaudhary and Nekibur Zaman, Singer Pulak Banerjee and many others.

The bill was also burnt at meji fire (bonfire)  today by senior journalist of Assam Mrinal Talukdar, journalist and author Anuradha Sharma Pujari, veteran Assamese actor Pranjal Saikia among many others as a protest against the Bill.

Members of  Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad  (AJYCP)  burned the Bill at Teok.

Earlier on Monday, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS)  chief started a hunger strike on the day of feasting (Uruka) at Chachal protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 with the members of the 70 ingenious organisations of Assam.

The 24 hours hunger strike started from 2 pm on Monday that would end today.The peasant leader urged the people of the state to continue the protest against the bill during Magh Bihu. He also urged the people the burn the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 on Uruka.
