Briskpolling has been recorded in 15 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha constituencyin the eastern region in the by-polls which are being held on Monday.
The Assembly by-elections are in progress in five seats of Bihar, four in Assam, three in Sikkim and one each in Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Meghalaya respectively.
As perreports, no untoward incidents have taken place in the polling stations.
Accordingto election officials, four assembly constituencies in Assam recorded 50.56percent of voting while Bijepur Assembly seat in Odisha witnessed 37.1 percentturnout till 1 pm.
On theother hand, Khonsa West Assembly seat in Arunachal Pradesh recorded 53 percentturnout while Shella Assembly constituency in Meghalaya recorded 32.28 percentvoting till 12 noon.
Meanwhile,22.19 percent voting recorded in five assembly seats in Bihar while inSamastipur Lok Sabha seat, 24 percent polling recorded during the same period.
In Sikkim,26.51 percent polling was recorded in the three assembly seats till 11 am. A totalof 44,534 voters are eligible to decide the fate of 15 candidates in the Sikkimby-polls.
SikkimChief Minister Prem Singh Tamang is among the prominent candidates in the fray.
Votingis underway in Samastipur Lok Sabha seat besides Kishanganj, Nathnagar, Belhar,Simri Bakhtiyarpur and Daraunda Assembly constituencies in Bihar.
Morethan 30 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise to elect fromamong 51 candidates in Bihar.
Moreover,in Assam, by-elections to four constituencies – Rangapara, Sonari, Ratabari andJania – will decide the fate of 20 contestants.
Some6,78,898 voters, including 3,27,803 female and one of the third gender, areeligible to exercise their franchise.
