The body of 12-year-old girl from Assam's Lakhimpur districtwho died under mysterious circumstances in the residence of an ArunachalPradesh MLA on May 20 has been exhumed from a cemetery.
The recommendation for the exhumation was put forward a weekago by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) as it wasnot satisfied with the Arunachal Pradesh police's investigation into the death.
The body was exhumed on Saturday and handed over to theArunachal Pradesh authorities for post-mortem.
It may be mentioned here that the girl was found hanging inthe house of Techi Kaso, a Janata Dal (United) legislator representing theItanagar Assembly constituency. She was an occasional visitor to Kaso's houseat Burung Basti in Naharlagun.
The NCPCR has expressed dissent over the Naharlagun policefor not filing an FIR and handing the body over to the family who had acceptedthat their daughter had committed suicide.
The All Assam Adivasi Students' Union (AAASU) lodged an FIR onJune 1 after a team of the Assam State Commission investigated the case jointlyfor Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) and the NCPCR.
It is believed that the autopsy will bring forth the cause of death of the girl.
It may be mentioned here that after the girl's death, theinmates of the house pulled her body down before the arrival of the police. Theroom where she was found dead was also demolished and burnt the 'dupatta' withwhich she was said to have killed herself.
