Amidspeculations over the candidatures of two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam, the BJPhas finally decided to share a seat with its ally AGP on Sunday. Assam Finance MinisterHimanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday afternoon informed about the development.
Speakingto media in Delhi, the Minister said, "After discussion with our partypresident Amit Shah, we have decided to share a seat with AGP. The remainingseat will be contested by a BJP candidate."
The Ministerfurther said that BJP will project an Assamese candidate from their seat. Earlier,there was speculation that LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan will sent to Rajya Sabhafrom Assam.
Meanwhile, speaking to media, AGP president Atul Bora said that senior leader of the party; Birendra Prasad Baishya will be AGP's candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat.
It should be noted that, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called of BJP chief Amit Shah on Sunday and congratulated him on the landmark victory of BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, 2019. They also discussed about the candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections of two Assam seats.

May 28 is the last date of filing nominations for the two Rajya Sabha seats of Assam.
