BJP protest sends traffic to standstill

In first of its kind, a ruling party took out protest rally against an opposition party in Assam. The State BJP leaders along with saffron supporters staged massive protest rally against Congress over the Rafale deal in Guwahati on Wednesday, which led to a huge traffic snarl.

Vehicle movement over the busiest GS Road was disrupted for more than an hour. BJP workers shouted slogans against Congress near Christianbasti. The protest turned into a nightmare for hundreds of commuters as they were forced to remain stuck in traffic snarls for more than an hour.  Worst hit were the office goers. Many of them even took to social media slamming BJP activists for causing unnecessary hardships for them.

Meanwhile, foolproof security arrangements were made for the rally. Police officers remained with the rally throughout.

A motorist said that though traffic jams were routine in the city, Wednesday was one of the worst days for traffic congestion and that he had been stuck on a road for one hour, when he had set out on a 10 minute drive from Ganeshguri to Bhangagarh.

On the other hand, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) leaders, members also staged a dharna at the Rajiv Bhawan against the BJP.
