BJP likely to contest BTAD elections alone

TheBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to contest the upcoming BodolandTerritorial Area District (BTAD) elections on their own. Though HagramaMohilary-led BPF and BJP are currently in a coalition in the State, BJP'smembership drive has shown a different picture.

BJP has emphasized on their membership drive in all districts of BTAD. The State BJP leaders have strictly instructed the local workers in BTAD to attract the maximum number of people to the party. As per reports, BJP has set the target of including 60,000 people in Kokrajhar, 50,000 in Chirang, 30,000 in Baksa and 50,000 in Udalguri district.

Itmay be mentioned here that BPF was in coalition with the Congress from 2006 to2013 and during the period, BPF has silently uprooted the Congress from BTADarea. Following the consequences, the saffron party has launched the massivemembership drive in BTAD. Sources in BJP have also revealed that the party islikely to contest the BTAD election alone following the demand of BJP grass-rootworkers in the area. The saffron party is likely to contest in 40 seats in theBTAD elections.

Moreover, recently BJP has shown outstanding results in the Panchayat election despite contesting it alone. Hence BJP is likely to take a chance on contesting BTAD election alone. Also despite being in a coalition with BJP, the BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma was defeated in recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections.

However, the State BJP is yet to decide on contesting the BTAD elections alone.
