A number of prominent BJP leaders from across India and Northeast attended the 67th Plenary Session of North Eastern Council (NEC) at State Convention Centre, Shillong. The plenary was chaired by NEC Chairman and Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh in presence of Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr Jitendra Singh, Governors, CMs of NE states and members.

On the occasion, CM Sonowal said "I congratulate and welcome Rajnath Singh as Chairman of NEC. Under your leadership, the Council will be able to give push to development of the region. I also thank Dr Jitendra Singh for his visible and continuous efforts towards welfare of the region."

The CM also thanked PM Modi for his attention towards development of Northeastern states and said, "Narendra Modi has termed North East as the 'New Engine' of India's growth, putting the region at the forefront of development initiatives. I thank the PM for his heartfelt love towards the region, which was neglected for decades."

"Be it roads, railways or airways, the political will displayed by PM Modi in prioritizing the NE has no parallel in the region's history. Led by this vision, the Act East Policy will give rich dividends to NE and the nation in terms of tourism, investment and trade," CM Sonowal added.
