Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Thursday clarified that Bhutan blocking water supply to India has incorrectly been reported in media rather the neighbouring country is helping to clear the blockage.
In a tweet, the Chief Secretary said, "Recent media reports about Bhutan blocking water supply to India has been incorrectly reported. The actual reason being the natural blockage of informal irrigation channels into Indian fields! Bhutan has been actually helping to clear the blockage."
The Chief Secretary stated that the actual reason is the natural blockage of informal irrigation channels into Indian fields.
He also shared some image in his twitter of Bhutan government authorities clearing the blockages of the irrigation channels.
It has been seen that recently hundreds of farmers from 25 villages of Assam's Baksa along the Indo-Bhutan border had alleged that Bhutan government is not allowing farmers from the Indian side to channelize water from Bhutan's side for irrigation.
Sources said due to the novel coronavirus-triggered lockdown, the Bhutan government has closed all entries of outsiders to the country and said Indian farmers will not be allowed to use irrigation channels originated in Bhutan.
