Bhanu demands probe into unused EVMs storage

Several trucks laden with EVMs and VVPAT machines were brought to a place near the Kamrup (R) DC office in Amingaon on Sunday night and deposited in a warehouse. According to reports, the huge quantities of EVMs and VVPAT machines were brought from Tezpur in 3 pick-up vans and 4 trucks.

Though, the Kamrup (R) district administration has informed that those were unused EVMs and VVPATs brought from different districts of Assam, the Congress party alleged that the machines were brought from Tezpur as part of the EVM tampering in the LS constituency.

Congress candidate from Tezpur, MGVK Bhanu on Monday morning demanded an investigation to the storage of the EVMs. Speaking to media, Bhanu said, "It is surprising that the movement of the machines were allowed during midnight. It is also not clear whether the Election Commission has approved the storage or not. The DC has said that the machines were unused and have to send to other places. If so, they had to inform the political parties, but we have not yet received any information on this. It is a doubtful as well as confusing practice. It is also undemocratic. Besides, EVMs must be kept under tight security."
