Bandh brings life to standstill in Udalguri

Bandh brings life to standstill in Udalguri
Updated on

Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Mancha (BJSM) has called for a 12-hour "Assam bandh" on Tuesday in protest against the Centre's move to grant scheduled tribe (ST) status to six "advanced" communities such as Chutia, Motok, Moran, Koch-Rajbongshi, Tai-Ahom and Tea Tribes/Adivasis.

Vehicular movement in Udalguri town was restricted. The bandh brought normal life to a standstill as business establishments remained closed. Commercial and private vehicles remained off-road causing trouble to commuters.

Government offices functioned normally but long distance government and private buses remained off the road. The situation was normal and security was beefed up by the district administration.
