Babu’s “Majuli Gavoru” creates controversy

YouTube

Assamese singer Babu is now in controversy for his latest video song "Majuli Gavoru".

Reportedly, the song was released on YouTube a few hours ago. But as the song spread among the people through social media, lots of comments have raised against him.

At first, it has been alleged that in the music video, a girl is seen begging by playing Khool and Bhur Taal in the bank of Brahmaputra river.

Secondly, the entire Satras of Majuli are always open for male and female both. There is no ban for women to enter in any satras' of Majuli and offer prayer to god. But on the other hand in this song, it shows that the victim girl and her family were punished for trying to enter inside the satra.

Thirdly, Mukha Silpa (mask culture) which is known to be one of the richest cultures of the island district is presented in an awkward way. Reactions come like that, Majuli's situation is not so much poor that, the people of Majuli have to beg to live their livelihood by using the rich culture like Khool, Taal, Mukha, etc.

Moreover, the dance forms of using Mukhas, which were seen in the song are not acceptable anyhow.

These are the allegations that have been raised against Babu for his new video song, and people across the state are demanding Babu to seek pardon socially.

Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad had already launched an FIR in the Garmur police station against the song and the singer Babu.
