Assam Youths Launch New Website To Showcase Assamese Film

Two Assam Youths Tridip Goswami and Subhasish Sen have launched a new website www.thejollywoodcafe.com on Sunday to showcase the Assamese Films on digital platforms. Filmmaker Rima Das, the director of Village Rockstars and Bulbul Can Sing launched the website via Facebook live.

Launching the website, Rima Das lauded the duo for their incredible effort and wished that their painstaking initiative would take the golden chapters of Assamese cinema beyond boundaries. She emotionally reminisced how both the films made a journey to the hearts of the World audience and brought laurels to the state.

Tridip Goswami and Subhasish Sen came close for their common interest in cinema. Subhasish Sen who hails from a very small town of central Assam Rupohi loved to watch cinema in Doordarshan at the weekend but world cinema was a distant dream. When he came to Guwahati to pursue his college education, chanced upon to meet another film buff Tridip Goswami who has a penchant for collecting old Assamese films from different places. The passion took him to different places where he would find film CDs in a dilapidated condition, dust off and buy them to play and watch in his computer along with Subhasish.

While doing so these two young film buffs realized that there is not that much bonafide information about Assamese cinema.  One fine evening both the friends had a chit-chat over a cup of tea and led them to give birth to an idea called "The Jollywood Cafe" a platform for various information about Assamese cinema along with cinema of the world. For three years social media was their vehicle for this endeavour. And that has been converted to a full-fledged website.

The website would have contents in both Assamese and English which will publish various articles on cinema, short films, web series, interviews, reviews, and news from various film festivals, careers in cinema along with rare archival contents- photos, audio, and video. "The website would be a good source of immense information for research scholars"- the founders said. In social media, the duo was galore with praise for their incredible effort. The website is creatively designed by another friend Om Prakash Kashyap Upadhyaya who was also present during the inauguration of the website.
