Vice-President of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) Angkita Dutta on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Assam government over its decision to appoint Dr Dambaru Nath as the Vice Chancellor of the Majuli Cultural University.
Addressing the media in Guwahati, the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress leader said, "There has been a serious allegation of sexual harassment charge against Dr Dambaru Nath. A female student in November 2016 had filed a complaint against Dr Nath at the Dibrugarh University internal committee and accused him of sexually harassing her."
"The victim has proof in support of her claim,"Dutta further said.
"The victim had even filed a complaint at the Internal Complaints Committee of Dibrugarh university on November 15, 2016. She was asked to take the complaint back as well, which she refused straight away," added Dutta.
Stating that the appointment of such a person as the VC of an education institution of repute is an insult to the entire women community, Dutta said that by doing so the Assam government has mocked the Centre's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' movement.
She also said that a person accused of sexual harassment against women should never be given such a prominent position, especially in an educational institution.
