Assam tableau to showcase ‘Sualkuchi’ on Republic Day

"Manchester of the East" – Sualkuchi, is the theme of the official tableau of Assam for the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26. The Union Ministry of Defence has approved it on Monday.

The tableau will present the hard work and dedication of the local weavers in national level.

A couple of days ago, the Union Ministry of Defence has rejected Assam's tableau for Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.

According to reports, the reason for rejecting this years tableau was "misinterpretation of the theme."

Assam was to display Mahatma Gandhi's visit to Sualkuchi in the year 1946 – which is often referred to as the "Manchester of the East".
