Assam Rifles – villagers clash in Changlang

Lumpang Basti, a tiny hamlet in Arunachal Pradesh – Myanmar bordering Changlang district on Thursday witnessed villagers' ferocity as they take on Assam Rifle jawans for ruthless beating to a fellow villager.
Villagers alleged that Assam Rifle men deployed in the district often run atrocities on innocent people in the name of searching NSCN militants taking shelters in the village.

"On August 19 last, one of our boys was mercilessly beaten by Assam Rifles jawan. The boy was innocent; he has no connection with any militants. We can't tolerate this kind of inhuman act of Assam Rifles jawan", said a villager.

On Thursday, both male and female of Lumpang Basti cordoned off the Assam Rifles camp and identified the jawan who had mercilessly beat a villager on August 19 last. The villagers were armed with bamboo sticks and some even carried machetes.

Villagers even thrashed some jawans in the camp and dared to open fire on them. Later the guilty jawan came forward and sought apology from villagers for his misdeeds. The jawans promised not to harass innocent villagers in future.
