Assam PWD gets Rs 942 Cr package

The Assam Cabinet has approved Rs 942 crore for the Public Works Department, Assam (PWD) to implement the ambitious scheme of converting 1159 wooden bridges into RCC ones. Conversion will be done under the scheme designed as Chilarai Project.

Preliminary work for converting 600 wooden bridges into RCC will start within the current financial year.

The Cabinet also decided to purchase the house at Kuthori in Nagaon district where music maestro Bhupen Hazarika used to stay during his lifetime. The house will be developed as a heritage property by the government.

The Cabinet also sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for renovation of the house at Tollygunge area in Kolkata where Bhupen Hazarika used to stay.

Finance department has informed the cabinet that it has sanctioned an amount of Rs 1 crore 75 lakh to purchase the house – 77 B, which is situated in Golf Club Road at Tollygunge.

The house is presently owned by Sushil Dangi, a famous chartered accountant in Kolkata, who has agreed to hand it over to the Assam government.

Along with the above mentioned decision, the cabinet has also come up with the decision to build broken bridges in various parts of the state. This decision has been made under a new scheme named Lachit Chilarai Setu.

It may be noted that an amount of Rs 1.43 crore has been sanctioned to build bridges under this scheme.
