Assam Police urges people to be careful of fake news circulated through social media

Following the unfortunate event of mob lynching in Karbi Anglong's Dokmoka, which was triggered by circulation of fake news on child traffickers across Assam through social media, Assam police has now urged people to not believe in all news shared on social media and be careful with them.

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia urged the people to not believe in these news and rather approach police or administration to inform about it. Any controversial news on Social media has been asked to be informed to police.

According to Chief Minister's orders, police will now keep a tight vigil over social media in the state and will keep a close eye on news that provoke hatred, riots, affect communal harmony or threatens someone's life.

Commissioner of Police has set up two panels to track all activities on social media in reference to the incident.

SP ranked officer's team will be monitoring social media updates on the Karbi Anglong incident for Guwahati while a team of ADGP ranked officers will monitor social media updates on the incident across Assam.
