The Assam Government is planning to host the Filmfare Awardsceremony in Guwahati, the Filmfare Awards are a set of awards that honour artisticand technical excellence in the Hindi-language film industry of India. TheFilmfare ceremony is one of the oldest and most prestigious film events inIndia.
The State government has sanctioned Rs 300 crore for the tourismsector in the Assam Budget 2019.
"We have sanctioned ₹ 300 crore to Assam Tourism in the Assam Budget 2019. To promote the state as a global tourist destination, for the 1st time we are exploring the possibility of hosting the filmfare Awards in Guwahati": Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.
The Filmfare Award is being hosted by the Times of India Group since 1954. They have been contacted by Assam's Tourism Department in a bid to explore the possibility of holding it. Already the Sarusajai outdoor and indoor stadium have been inspected.
The state and bureaucracy are divided over the concept. One section feels that this would help brand positioning Assam. But on the hand, the other section that one-off events like Filmfare, despite the presence of all the big Bollywood celebrities would not give enough brand positioning as all would come for just 72 hours and go.
Many are concerned that event management companies could make a killing if the over jealous state government was roped in to pay the bill.
