Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva , a name which lends Assam's Neo-Vaisnavite movement its identity. September 11, 2018 marks the Tirobhav Tithi (death anniversary) of Srimanta Sankardeva.
Sattras and Namghars of Assam are seen paying their respects to the Saint-scholar with 'Nam-Prasanga'. Sankardeva's birthplace, Batadrava, has arranged for special programmes marking his death anniversary.
Majuli, the hub of Sattras, is also commemorating the date with 'Harinam'. With 32 Sattras, every nook and corner of the district is paying respects to the propagator of the 'Ekasarana Dharma'.
Uttar Kamalabari Sattra, Natun Kamalabari Sattra, Madhya Kamalabari Sattra and Bhogpur Sattra are adhering to the occasion for four days traditionally.
On the other hand, Barpeta Sattra is following the seven day ritual of commemorating the occasion.
