Amid Durga Puja festivities, an incident of moral policing has come to light in Goalpara district of Assam, reports emerged on Tuesday.
According to reports, the incident occurred on October 21 (Saturday) at Golapara’s Garujan village under Dhumerghat Police Station.
Sources said that a 13-year-old boy was subjected to physical assault by an elderly man of the same village. The minor boy has been identified as Mahiful Rahman. He was reportedly moving towards the Ximolabari Bazaar when a tea shop owner named Hahjan Ali assaulted him.
Reportedly, Ali tied the minor boy to a tree and thrashed him. According to the victim’s family members, Ali resorted to thrashing him on alleged charges of theft. As a result of this, the boy sustained grievous injuries.
Later, some locals rescued the boy and admitted him to a hospital.
In this regard, an FIR has been lodged by the minor boy’s parents at the Dhumerghat Police Station. The police have launched an investigation into the case.
